Blockbusters '87 theme song, looped once (3.09 MB, 3:22)
Main Game

Like on the 1980 version, the 1987 version of Blockbusters was played on a 20 hexagon board. However, the difference on this version was that there was no longer a family pair, but two single players competed against each other.
In game 1, the challenger (red) got the advantage, and could complete a path by going top to bottom in as few as four moves.

The champion (white) went across, left to right, and could complete a path in as few as five moves.

Like on the '80 version, each answer to the
question began with the letter on the hexagon. Whoever buzzed
in first answered, and if correct won control and got
the pick of the next hexagon. Each game was worth $100, and best two
out of
three won the game, and the chance to go the Gold
Run.
Gold Run
In the Gold Run, most of the hexagons
started with more than one letter. The object was to connect the
"gold
to the gold" in less than 60 seconds. If they answered
incorrectly,
a
block was put up and the player would have to work around it. $100
was given for each correct answer, and $5000 (plus another $5000 for
each loss) for connecting.
